Networked emergency response

🇮🇹 The local chapter of the Italian Red Cross in Pieve Emanuele launched an ambitious project through the department for operations, emergency response, and rescue: The establishment of an Advanced Medical Post (PMA), which is a mobile facility that can be deployed in the event of a mass casualty incident (MCI), natural disasters, or large public events.

To ensure constant operational readiness, the rescue and medical aid station (PMA) must function completely independently of the infrastructure at the given location. If the connection is instable or cannot be established, the coordination of the volunteer helpers, access to patent data, resource management, and communication with the operations centres can be slowed down.
The biggest challenges were:
- Availability of an independent and secure connection even without a landline;
- Protection of data and communication in compliance with data protection protocols;
- Connection setup within a few minutes without technical staff;
- Extension of the signal to cover the entire deployment area to ensure the simultaneous connection of tablets, PCs, and medical devices.
A reliable, easily transportable system was needed that would also function in adverse weather conditions.
The solution
FRITZ! Italy supplied two powerful devices: the FRITZ!Box 6860 5G, a compact router with next-generation mobile connectivity and IP54-housing, and the FRITZ!Repeater 6000, which extends the Wi-Fi coverage across the entire deployment area.
Thanks to FRITZ!OS, the Wi-Fi network is configured in just a few minutes and is equipped with a firewall, WPA3 encryption, guest networks, and integrated VPNs to protect sensitive data. This way, the volunteers can use an independent, secure, and powerful Wi-Fi network anywhere, even when no infrastructure is available.

‘The FRITZ! solution allowed us to establish an independent and secure Wi-Fi network that is ready for use in any situation. Thanks to the stability and user-friendliness of the devices, we can focus on the people, knowing that communication will never be an issue.’
